Halting the descent into distraction

this month’s Rundale contributions ask us to make a halt and refocus our attention

By Laure Tymowski & Kathleen Stokes

Welcome back! We hope you are enjoying the dregs of summer. With the ‘back to school’ energy afforded by the autumnal transition, this month’s Rundale contributions ask us to halt and refocus our attention. As our attention is overwhelmed with ever-increasing amounts of (social media) content, what does this constant barrage distract us from? What are we missing, forgetting, or perhaps ignoring?

These questions can be applied to any number of issues, from revolting inequities plaguing our communities and elite-led developments that keep reinforcing them. Here, we offer three articles that call attention to issues right on our doorstep in Ireland:

Philip Lawton and Kathleen Stokes reflect on calls to relocate Dublin Port alongside ‘hot-take urbanism’ and Dublin’s metropolitan development.

Laure Tymowski describes how flood adaptation governance, when overly driven by real estate actors, leaves the ‘unpropertied’ at increased flood risk exposure.

Finally, Fiadh Tubridy contemplates the movement for trans liberation, bodily autonomy and healthcare through interviews with activists who have been involved in the Transgress the NGS campaign over the past year and a half.

We are also excited to announce that Rundale is inviting open proposals for submissions. If you have an idea you’d like to share, please find more information here.
