Happy New Year from Rundale!

In the doldrums of January, it’s easy to feel a bit isolated or cast adrift. However, there’s no better time to share and connect.

This month’s edition of Rundale presents a selection of articles that emphasize the power and importance of the collective:

Claudia Peroni and Jack McNicholl of the Postgraduate Workers’ Organisation of Ireland share the story of postgraduate researchers in Ireland organising to improve their working rights and conditions.

Killian O’Sullivan questions whether cost rental housing models are fit for purpose and politically viable in Ireland.

Brendan Ciarán Browne laments the individualised and slow-founded solidarity for Gazans amongst Irish and European academics and points to the potential for institutional realignment towards collective action.

Ruairi-Santiago McBride describes the emergence of the Irish Penal Abolition Network (IPAN) in response to severe prison overcrowding and prison expansion in Ireland.

Also, February marks one year since we launched our first edition. We’re very proud of all the hard work that has gone into the last year, so have decided to organise a wee celebration to mark the occasion.

The Rundale crew will be grabbing a celebratory pint (and possible slice of cake) at Clarke’s City Arms on the evening of Wednesday, the 19th of February. All contributors and readers are invited to join us to mark the occasion – and, yes, that means you if you’re reading this.

We’ll kick off the evening with a few words to mark the occasion at 7pm, and also would love to chat through any article pitches or ideas for Rundale going forward. Hope to meet some of you there.
